PINECREST

PINECREST AT 50

From humble beginnings

in an elementary school room,

begun as a mission,

it expanded, and soon.

With willing parishioners

and the First Church as mentor,

with a small pump organ,

we emerged a religious center.

As the area of Greater Miami

developed and grew,

Pinecrest also flourished

and prospered too.

We lived through schisms

and times of unrest,

turbulence of the 60’s

the space age quest.

We discussed Council On Church Unity

but, bishops were a stumbling block.

God was declared dead!

but it didn’t bother us a lot.

Miami desegregated,

the PC conservative branch bolted,

the North and South branches were united

and the 200th year of the Synod noted.

Then came the refugees.

The Bay Isles were pink wrapped.

Habitat Houses were built,

the Berlin Wall was scrapped.

Andrew came, destroyed and went.

We had a jubilee for a hurricane.

With evangelical and charismatic competition,

our numbers began to wane.

Despite social and economic

and philosophical change,

music was still vital.

Our devotion to children and learning will remain

We celebrated our 40th

with a proper birthday;

we continue to progress

in our warm caring way.

So let us prayerfully rejoice

for our experiences of time.

We’ve made it to the 2000’s

and we’re all fine
