“A Place of Grace…
A Place of Hope…
A Place for everyone.”
These words describe the heart and mission of The Miami Shores Presbyterian Church. Our prayer is to be a place where the grace of God through Jesus Christ is experienced, where hope for living is given, and where everyone finds the welcoming arms of God.
Established in 1937 as a congregation of the former Presbyterian Church, U. S. (Southern Church), MSPC grew with the expansion of Miami-Dade County and the mission efforts of its members. In 1940 the church purchased its present site in the newer village of Miami Shores and grew to a membership of 2,700 in the early 1970’s. The current main sanctuary of 1,000 plus seating was built in 1968 to accommodate the burgeoning worship attendance. The church’s chapel, McArthur Memorial Chapel, is adjacent to the main sanctuary and was a gift of the McArthur family, known for their dairy products.
Missions work has always been at the heart of the church, whether it involved supplying fresh water to a hospital in Haiti (2005), an ambulance to a needy community (2003), rebuilding homes on the Gulf Coast (2006), or helping plant a new church (Sunrise Presbyterian, 1971). MSPC continues to be very involved with such ministries as Pass It On (a volunteer based feeding ministry), the Homeless Feeding Project, and annual mission trips for both adults and youth.
The 1980’s and 1990’s saw dramatic cultural shift in the little village of Miami Shores (10,000 residents) that has opened the door for greater diversity and mission. Gone are the old days when one out of every four Shores residents were members; but at our doorstep are now new members with roots in the Caribbean Islands, Central and South America, Korea, and a multitude of countries. The church’s membership is a stable and growing 600+ members. We are a church that is proud of our past seventy years but looks forward to fulfilling the mission God has planned for our next seventy years.
