EL CORDERO PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

El Cordero

El Cordero Presbyterian Church is a community of faith in Jesus Christ, united to do His Will through the four principle functions detailed below.

Worship our God to delight and take joy in the nearness of his presence. Our church has an outstanding music ministry where we mix the contemporary with the traditional both in English and Spanish. As an ethnic community, we strive to create an ambiance where we all feel the presence of God and find joy in celebrating the great things He is doing in our families, church and city.

The Word The Word is the standard in our life and is the Door through which we come to know Him. In a postmodern world were truth is relative and modern “values” actually breakdown the fundamental principles of society, the Word of God, as Truth- firm and absolute- is a clear compass in a dim and foggy road.

Koinonia arising not from common pursuits or casual interests, but from a sincere commitment to Jesus Christ. It’s been said that one of the outstanding characteristics of our congregation is the sense of family one feels as soon as you walk thru the doors. We understand that faith in Christ has made us into a family to serve and love, to help and restore. We organize picnics and other activities where we have the opportunity to fraternize in a save and wholesome environment.

Evangelism  In years past, we evangelized by mobilizing in local neighborhoods inviting others to join one of our services or participate in our special activities. Today, we promote relational evangelism through interpersonal relationships. We encourage a more committed, and at once a more effective type of evangelism. One that speaks to others about Christ not only with words but also with a way of life, leading by example and testimony. We must understand that as Christians we have two powerful weapons in our favor to evangelize our fellow brother or sister: One is the Word and the other is our own life.

Today, our church is facing the challenge of reaching new generations of Latinos, that without disregarding their heritage, speak a different language than that of their parents, are raised in a different culture than that of their parents and that at the same time, are trapped in an identity crisis creating a subculture in our city. The challenge to our congregation, thru a process of transformation, is to reach with the powerful message of Jesus Christ those new generations.

Our church began in the same way and in the same place many others in Miami did. There is gratitude in our hearts for those men and women who have sowed in this ministry and have made history in our church. Rev. August J. Kling in whose heart was to establish a Hispanic mission at the First Presbyterian Church of Miami in Brickell in 1947. Rev. Moises J. Senti who answered the call to Pastor the new mission. Rev. Angel Ramos, the late Rev. Idaliza Fernández and our current pastor Rev. Otoniel Bermudez Jr.
