PDA Volunteer Villages, Points of Distribution, and War Rooms

The Presbytery of Tropical Florida (PTF) has various Memorandums of Understanding with different Churches throughout the Presbytery for these and they are on file at the office and available for review upon request. These have all been placed on a Google map for an overhead view of how our Presbytery is connected in disaster preparedness. You can view this map at; http://maps.google.com

  • Volunteer Villages - In the event of a Disaster, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance may come into the area and want to set up what is known as a Volunteer Village. These Villages are communities that are set up by PDA to provide living facilities and meals for Volunteers who would come into the area to help rebuild for long term.
  • Points of Distribution - This is a place where non-perishable goods can be placed for distribution to the local community. These particular PODs were developed as a place where small amounts of items can be placed and distributed. This may include water, tarps, or MREs (meals ready to eat).
  • War Rooms - These were developed after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. These are places where churches without electricity or access to their church offices could go to outside the damage zones in order to access the internet so the church business would be able to continue.
