Memorial began November 23, 1924 on the solid foundation of being a Christ-centered, Bible-teaching Church reaching out in prayer, love, and service to others, We continue to honor that foundation working to fulfill our mission statement “to know Christ and make Him known.”     Located in the center of Palm Beach Atlantic University in downtown West Palm Beach, we are a multi-racial, multicultural congregation reaching out to an area extending to Boynton Beach, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, & Palm City.  We are an intergenerational Church with programs and ministries for every age group, families and singles.  When you come to Memorial someone will greet you with a smile, a kind word, and an eagerness to be of help to you.  Our goal is for you to know that Christ and His Church in MPC loves and cares for you, then to engage you in a Bible Study or prayer ministry to build yourself up and bless others.

Memorial’s first buildings were completely destroyed by the 1928 hurricane with our present facilities completed in 1937.  Recovering from storms has been one of Memorial's key roles and strengths.  Following Hurricane Andrew, for months Memorial’s Teams provided disaster relief and clean up to Miami and Homestead.  Through the years we have filled key roles in meeting disaster needs in the Bahamas, South Florida, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and other places around the world.

Memorial emphasizes genuine worship, prayer, service and missions.  Three of our Elders have founded Para-Church organizations.  Elder Don Elmore heads United Servant’s Abroad (USA) working with congregations around the country to organize and train teams for short-term international mission trips.  Elder Jack Wells is founder of School Life providing support for quality education in the public schools and support for Christians, with an emphasis on prayer, in the public school systems.  Scott Lewis is founder and CEO of Eagles’ Wings Foundation, dedicated to disaster recovery in the United States and the Caribbean Islands.  During Dr. Stepp’s ministry 7 persons have entered the ordained ministry, one is in seminary, and many more have served in organizations like Campus Crusade, SAM, and TEAM.   Locally, we partner financially and with volunteers with organizations such as the Habitat for Humanity, Jr. League of the Palm Beaches to provide “Eye and Ear Alert” a free screening program for hearing and visual impairments in pre-school children, First Care who provides support services for women with problem pregnancies, and Westgate Tabernacle Church and the Lord’s Place who provide for the homeless. Our summer short-term missions have included a street evangelism team sent into Russia shortly after the iron curtain came down and a disaster recovery team to Kosovo right after the war.  Other mission teams, focusing on witness, ministry and building, have been sent to Brazil, Peru, Guatemala, St. Vincent’s Island, Haiti, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and Mozambique.

On August 1 MPC celebrates 25 years under the faithful leadership of our pastor, Dr. Bill Stepp, and is now in the process of seeking a co-pastor to serve with him in ministry.  His example of love for Christ, the Church, Scripture, and people is reflected in our congregation’s reputation as a faithful, caring, service-oriented Church.  Most members and friends refer to MPC as “their Church family.”  Currently, we are installing an elevator to make our facilities available to the handicapped and rebuilding our Youth program and ministry to young adults.

Through the years Memorial has made two very defining decisions:  The first is to stay in downtown WPB as a light of Christ to both the downtown and the larger areas of the Palm Beaches. The second is to continue as a PC(USA) congregation striving to make the denomination the best that we can for Christ and His glory.  We have been a leader in the annual 4th of July Christian Life Conference in Montreat, North Carolina, a strong supporter of the Synod ministries at Thornwell Home for Children and the Presbyterian Retirement Ministries. We have also faithfully participated in Presbytery including the service of 2 moderators of Presbytery, Presbytery’s current Moderator-elect, and many faithful chairpersons and members serving on Presbytery’s committees.  A special time of prayer is focused in worship each Sunday and in all Session meetings for the Presbytery and at least two of our sister Churches, their pastors and membership.  Thank you for your prayers for us.  We ask our Heavenly Father to continue to bless our Presbytery, the servants of the Presbytery and our Churches, and our denomination.
