Greetings from the community of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Coconut Creek: “Grace to you and peace from the one who is, who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before God’s throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the first born of the dead and the ruler of kings on earth.”

Spotlighting this congregation is exactly what is needed when looking at Calvary in Coconut Creek. The spotlight is an instrument of motion and movement motion is the essence of this congregation. Even though many of our members are in their nineties or even in the triple digits of their lives, we continue to move forward in our ministry; sometimes faster than others and with regular breaks for recuperation!

We opened this note with a quote from the Revelations of John for two reasons. First we are knee deep in a bible study of the Revelations. It seemed odd to the pastor that his first bible study at Calvary would be from the last book of the Bible but the will of the people would not be thwarted. The second reason for referring to the Revelations is that despite the cyclical appearance of plagues, pestilence, torture and even death, this congregation has patiently remained faithful. The love, grace and hope that are central to John’s visions are the centerpiece of life within Calvary Presbyterian Church.

As we seek our unique voice within the body of Christ, we are discovering that prayer and healing are rapidly becoming fundamental aspects of this community. We meet every Wednesday morning for a prayer group that is faithfully attended

by many of the community who are committed to the relationship between the congregation, the community in general and God’s steadfast love. The dedication to a disciplined spiritual life has been a part of this ministry for many years and is key to our commitment to the ongoing ministry of Christ for the glory of God.

Once a month Calvary has a healing service at which time members are welcomed to share their brokenness and come together with those who care and are willing to share in the burdens of those who are struggling. Together we attend to the needs of those in the congregation and carry the Spirit of healing out into the world in which we live.

We at Calvary firmly believe that God is a very real entity who exists and works in this world. An understanding of God as an abstract construct or ethereal presence is foreign to the members of Calvary. God is alive and living in Coconut Creek and all are invited to come grow in faith and discover God’s presence at Calvary Presbyterian Church.

“…come, let those who desire take the water of life without price.”
